Digital
connections
I wrote these pages
thinking to help all the novices, and not, who want to make digital recordings on MD, from
MP3 files or anything else similar they got into their pc.
You know the difference between digital and anlog recordings, don't you? Shortly,
you make a digital copy of something, when you use a coaxial or an optical link between
source and recorder: clear?
This kind of link is called SPDIF.
MiniDiscs let you make many copies, let you record, erase and re-record again! So,
they are useful, with a nice walkman, to play all the music you like and you saved onto
your hard disk drive in .mp3 or .wav format!
Of course you need a digital out from your sound card!
One of the most complete sound card including digital out (optical and coax) and
digital in (optical and coax, too!) is Soundblaster Live! Platinum. Actually it cost very
much, but you can find something similar, even if you buy the "poor"
Soundblaster Live! 1024. It's not any digital in, but it allows digital recording on a
external media thanks to its "jack" dig. out!
Anyway, I think could be very nice (and useful!) to have in the front of your pc's
case all the link you need to make your dig. recordings!
Well, I found on the Net a nice site that sells "dauther cards", you can
easily connect to your soundcard! Finally you'll get your professional recording studio!
Here I included some
interesting projects, realized by some friends, or found on the Net, about digital
connections between your pc and your MD deck. Be careful and read every notes and
disclaimers.
More about SPDIF.

I added a few soudcards and daughter-cards, with their own technical
information and pictures - of course! -
